Mecca is the bingo brand a lot of us grew up with, and there are still roughly 50 clubs dotted around England, Scotland and Wales. If you’re after your nearest one, this page has the lot, sorted by region.

Each entry carries the club’s full address and a link to its dedicated page, which lists up-to-date hours, sessions and prices. Scroll on, and you’ll also find the Mecca clubs that have shut down over the years, so the picture is complete, whether your local is still going strong or long gone.

Mecca Clubs That Have Closed

Like much of the high street, Mecca’s estate has shrunk over the years. A wave of clubs went after the 2007 smoking ban, and the closures have carried on since as costs have climbed. We’ve kept the ones that have shut on record below, partly for posterity and partly because people still go looking for them. Spot your old haunt here and at least you’ll know what became of it.

The Mecca Bingo Story

Sixty years in the making

Mecca is one of the oldest names in British bingo. It began as Top Rank and has sat within the Rank Group for decades, run today from a head office in Maidenhead. Much of the credit for bingo’s rise belongs to Eric Morley, the man who founded Miss World. He ran Mecca’s dance halls in the 1950s and helped fill them with bingo players as the sixties arrived. Sit down for a game now and you’re carrying on something well over sixty years old. There is some real heritage here.

Behind the closed list

It’s been a hard couple of decades for bingo on the high street, and Mecca’s closed list shows it. The 2007 smoking ban thinned out attendances and took a batch of clubs with it, while rising costs and quieter town centres have accounted for more since. What’s left is the 49 clubs gathered at the top of this page.

Inside a Mecca club today

There’s more to a modern Mecca than the main game. You can play the old-fashioned way with a paper book and a dabber, or pick up one of the electronic tablets (Mecca calls them Max) that mark the numbers off for you. Most clubs run two main sessions daily at around two hours apiece, an afternoon game and an evening one from 7 to 9pm, while some add a morning session or extra games on top. There’s a slots arcade in every club as well, with spins from 10p and jackpots reaching £500.

The top prizes are what turn heads. The National Game links every bingo club in the country for a £50,000 jackpot, and Mecca’s own Cash Dash can climb as high as £250,000. Add in the party nights, from Bonkers Bingo to drag shows and themed music evenings, and a Mecca visit can be more night out than quiet flutter.

Mecca Bingo Clubs FAQ

How many Mecca clubs are left in the UK?

Mecca runs 49 clubs at the moment, across England, Scotland and Wales (there are none in Northern Ireland). They're all listed above by region, and we've added the ones that have shut down underneath, so nothing is missing.

Who's behind Mecca Bingo?

It belongs to the Rank Group, the company that also owns Grosvenor Casinos. Mecca goes a long way back, starting out as Top Rank in 1961, and the business is run from Maidenhead in Berkshire.

Why have so many Mecca clubs shut?

Town-centre bingo has been squeezed for years. The 2007 smoking ban knocked footfall and closed a batch of clubs, and rising overheads have claimed more since. The 49 that remain are the ones gathered at the top of this page.

Do I need to be a member to get in?

You do, but it costs nothing and takes a few minutes. Register on meccabingo.com, complete your club's online form, or fill in a paper one at reception when you arrive. The only catch is that you have to be 18 or over.

Will I be asked for ID?

Quite possibly. Under Mecca's Think 25 rule, the team check the age of anyone who looks younger than 25, and you'll need to prove you're 18-plus. A passport or driving licence does the trick, so take one along.

How much does a session cost?

First-timers get all their bingo and a drink for just £5. Beyond that first visit, what you pay comes down to the club and the session, so the price list on each club's page is the place to check.

When can I play, and how long are the sessions?

Each club sets its own timetable, so go by the hours on its individual page. The usual pattern is two main sessions a day at roughly two hours each, an afternoon one and an evening one running 7 to 9pm, with smaller games around them. A fair few clubs add a morning session or other games as well, so timetables aren't identical everywhere. Ring ahead if you're heading out for a particular game.

Paper book or electronic tablet?

Either suits. Traditionalists keep a paper book and a dabber on the go, while plenty of regulars prefer a Max tablet, which can mark the numbers off automatically. Head to Booksales and a team member will set you up and run through how it works.

Is there food and a slots area?

Yes to both. Clubs have a bar and a kitchen serving burgers, chip-shop favourites and the like, plus a slots arcade where spins start at 10p and jackpots climb to £500.

What are the biggest jackpots at Mecca clubs?

The eye-catching ones are the National Game, which links every UK bingo club for a £50,000 jackpot, and Mecca's Cash Dash, which tops out at £250,000. Wins that size are rare, so treat them as a bonus and play for the fun first.

Are there event nights?

Plenty. On top of the regular games, lots of clubs lay on party nights such as Bonkers Bingo, drag shows and music-themed evenings. They're ticketed and usually run later on, so see what your local has coming up.

Is there a Mecca Bingo online too?

There is. When a club trip isn't on the cards, you can play bingo and slots at meccabingo.com, and the Perks scheme means online play can earn vouchers to spend back in club. Our Mecca Bingo review gives the full rundown.

How do I find a club's times and prices?

They're different at every club, so the quickest way is to open your club from the list above. Each one has its own page with the full times and prices, covering session times, opening hours and what a book or tablet costs. A club's prices can shift for promotions and special events, mind, so check before you go if you're after a particular session.

Is there a Mecca Bingo club app?

Yes, and it's handy if you go often. The My Mecca app lets you pre-book your bingo, see the latest club offers, and order food and drink to your table without leaving your seat. It also keeps your membership card on your phone, so there's nothing to dig out at reception. There's a separate Slots Society app too, which carries offers and rewards for the in-club slot machines.

What is Cash Dash at Mecca?

Cash Dash is one of Mecca's in-club games, and it works a bit differently to ordinary bingo. It's fixed-odds, so a set run of numbers is called and the fewer it takes you to complete a full house, the more you win. Get there inside the first 15 to 19 numbers and the top prize is a hefty £250,000, with smaller prizes the further down the board you go. On the Max tablets it even validates itself, so there's no need to shout.
